Working as a group. The main aim was to culturally connect the Madrid city center to Lavapies and specifically to the given site, essentially a hub of cultural integration. The existing park comprises of dog areas, basketball courts, outdoor gym and two schools. Overall it is dis-jointed and divides its surrounding neighborhood.

Our proposal suggested interventions along the perimeter of the site, with sight lines from the surrounding streets cutting through the buildings; this helps connect the areas while creating a multi-layered public space in the center.
The mixed-use scheme features a cultural center, hotel, residential, rebuilt school and work spaces. While the main goal was to create a cultural hub, the adjacent commercial functions bring financial viability.

The functions of the mixed use development are positions according to its immediate context; for example the retail and hotel benefits from its frontage to the main street, while the two residential buildings are located on the north facing the neighboring the existing residential buildings.

And the school on the west is rebuilt to allow site access from the markets.
One of the main features of the site scheme proposal is contrast and nuance:Historically important Reina Sofia House is ‘aligned’ to new Cultural center.
